Queen Liz

Liz Taylor is certainly an icon for many reasons. Her extremely enviable jewelry collection being one of those. In 1957 she was given an antique diamond tiara worth an estimated $60,000-$80,000. Liz had this to say about it in A Life in Jewelry "When [third husband Mike Todd] gave me this tiara, he said, 'You're my queen, and I think you should have a tiara,' "I wore it for the first time when we went to the Academy Awards. It was the most perfect night, because Mike's film Around the World in 80 Days won for Best Picture. It wasn't fashionable to wear tiaras then, but I wore it anyway because he was my king."

What's the boldest fashion statement you've ever made? Would you wear Liz' crown jewels?

Sporty-Chic

Hello everyone! My anticipation for Fall can barely be contained at this point. I get a twinge of excitement when I stumble upon apple cider and painted gourds in the grocery store, and the return of pumpkin spice lattes is practically enough to make the leaves change. Fall is also a wonderful time for us fashion lovers. It signifies that you can finally wear cute jackets and jeans without bathing in your own sweat! This fall, I am really excited to play around with heavier fabrics like neoprene and brocade. I am also loving the sporty-chic revolution, combining feminine skirts with sleek sneakers. My sporty-chic fashion board focuses on texture and shine as opposed to colors. Exploring new fabrics and shapes is a great way to mix up your look, and can be just as interesting as wearing bright colors. I paired a semi-sheer crop jersey top with a flared patent leather skirt. A fitted white jacket with abstract zipper features defines this look and makes it Fall-ready!
The sporty trend is fresh and fun, but what is a great outfit without some show-stopping accessories?! We get a glamorous pop of color from Gem Steady’s gorgeous rosé amethyst and citrine cocktail ring. Sticking to one piece of statement jewelry plays along with the simplistic vibe of this outfit.
Adding luxe accessories to a sporty look gives it a dose of glamour and a sense of maturity. The Annabelle handbag by Kathryn Allen Couture is the ultimate dose of luxury. Playful white sneakers with bunny ear lips amp up the playfulness of this outfit and a funky pair of bedazzled violet shades top off our sporty-chic look. Some may say this outfit is risky. It’s outside of the box, and even a little kooky! But life is too short to play it safe all the time. Have fun with your fashion! And remember to adorn yourself with Gem Steady everyday!
What are some funky Fall trends you are digging right now? We would love to hear them!

A Day(Dream) At The Beach

Hello Gem Steady fanatics! The fashion board I want to present today is inspired by daydreams of being at a luxurious beach resort instead of melting at our desks during those grueling summer work weeks. Images of a flowing silk gown in shades of indigo and navy-blue dance through our heads, as we picture ourselves wearing such a luxurious number while gliding over a white sand beach. A delicate diamond and pavé necklace by Gem Steady drips down the neckline of our dreamy beach dress, and a glamorous mahogany alligator handbag by Kathryn Allen Couture would hold all of our pool essentials. A pair of glimmering gold strappy sandals by Jimmy Choo would be perfect to slip on after the sand is washed off of our perfectly manicured feet(We can dream, right?!). Daydreams like this always encourage me to keep pushing through the week. What do you like to daydream about at work?

Ten Interesting Silver Facts

Hello everyone! I hope this day has been treating you wonderfully, and if you reside in the Cincinnati area I hope you are enjoying this glorious weather! Today, I would like to talk about something slightly different with all of you. Instead of focusing on the gems, I would like to talk about the material that holds the gems around your neck, fingers and wrists. Metals are the backbone of our jewelry. While they may not always get the same attention as the colorful stones they cradle, they are essential to most every piece of jewelry.

Sterling silver is the shining star of this blog post, so everyone give one of our favorite icy metals a big round of applause! Sterling silver is known for its durability, and timeless popularity alike.

Here are a few facts about the glimmering wonder that is sterling silver:

1. Sterling silver has been making the rounds as a luxurious metal since 5000 BC. Sterling artifacts such as engraved coins, pots, rings and figures have been unearthed. Visit your local museums and see what silver artifacts you can spot!

2. It has been said that the glow of sterling silver represents the guiding light during our journey through life. Wear it, and feel a sense of protection and guidance.

3. Believe it or not, sterling silver is a real softie in its original state. In order to achieve the durable silver that makes up our jewelry, it must be mixed with other metals such as platinum or copper.

4. Despite being soft in its natural state, it takes quite a lot to melt this metal. Fine sterling silver melts at 1434 degrees F(779 degrees C).

5. At least twelve languages have a word that means both "silver" and "money".

6. During ancient times, silver was valued at a higher price than gold.

7. Sterling silver has anti-bacterial properties, and some hospitals use bandages that release silver ions which promote the healing of wounds.

8. Silver is cool to the touch and is said to rid of bad energy, and help to promote tranquility. I guess you could say silver is calm, cool and collected!

9. Silver has the highest degree of optical reflectivity of any element. High quality mirrors are backed with silver because this metal reflects about 95 percent of the visible light spectrum.

10. It is nearly impossible to find another word in the English language that rhymes with "silver". Can you think of one?

Well, now we know a little bit more about silver! Beyond the jewelry industry, it is extensively used in the medical field, science and photography industries. We will never look at our cute sterling silver charm bracelets again! Are you aching to get your hands on the jack of all trades that is sterling silver? Summer Must Haves

Hello gem-tastic peeps! I hope you are all having an extra fabulous weekend! Summer offers endless opportunities to have fun in the sun, with friends and family. Whether you are heading to a music festival, pool party, or are having a cozy night by a campfire, chances are you have a few go to pieces in your wardrobe that you consider summer staples. Today, I want to share a few of my summer essentials that I simply cannot live without!

1. Long Statement Necklace: During the brutally hot summer months, I am all about looking chic with minimal effort put in. Long necklaces are fantastic because you do not have to fight with clasps or clips. You simply toss it on, and boom... You are fabulously accessorized! This Gem Steady necklace features Iron Landscape Quartz, and the neutral tones compliment practically all other colors! Have one made at www.gemsteady.com

2. The Perfect Hat: I discovered several years ago that the answer to a humidity inflated hair disaster is a cute hat. I prefer lightweight woven materials such as straw so they do not create a mini oven around your head! Also, I have found that it is far easier to drive with a short brimmed hat compared to the wide brimmed counterparts. Throw this little taupe and peach cloche on with a long, breezy dress or with a tee-shirt and high waisted shorts. Find this hat HERE, and never fear humidity again!

3. High Waisted Denim Shorts: Long gone are the days where we are forced to settle on wearing basic jorts(Jean Shorts). Keeping a pair of high waisted denim shorts in your summer wardrobe is an excellent choice because they are comfortable, they often have adorable buttons, and all you have to do is tuck your shirt in and go. They look a lot more sophisticated than normal old daisy dukes and give you a seemingly instant hourglass frame. Pair them with a cropped top for a fun way to expose a little skin, or go for a lightweight sleeveless blouse for a look that is adorable and comfortable. These darling sailor inspired dark-washed shorts are from ModCloth.

4. Cute & Comfy Shoes: Summer involves a lot of walking, a lot of playing and it leaves absolutely no time for blistered feet. Fun flats are not only stylish, they are also practical! Decorative flats are the answer to all of your summer shoe needs and they are super easy. Just slip them on, and you are out the door! It is smart to have a pair of flats in a vinyl or patent leather material that you can wear in grass or rain without staining. These nude flats with golden accents are such a great summer staple! You can find these cuties at ModCloth

These are just a few items that make my summer wardrobe come together. What pieces do you find yourself wearing a lot in the summer? Summer is such a great time to let your outfit choices represent how fun and great you are! Let a few basic pieces be your foundation so you do not waste a second of your summer staring at your closet, asking yourself what to wear! Thank you so much for reading:) And be sure to follow us on Pinterest where we post a lot of outfit inspiration pictures!

Have a wonderful and safe Saturday night folks, and stay fabulous!

Update on a Classic Look

Happy Thursday everyone! Thursday always feels a bit magical and exciting to me because the weekend is almost within reach! To make your work day go a little faster, I wanted to present an inspiration board that I created. I wanted to do a take on the classic, tailored pants and jacket look. The tried and true pants and jacket look is a must have for the office, but this is a slightly more glamourous take on classic business apparel.
There is a clash of hard and delicate fabrics, which modernizes the look. Silk pants by Etro drape elegantly down the legs, while a stiff wool blend peplum jacket brings structure to the outfit. A beaded black strappy top and romantic velvet pumps make this a great outfit to wear for a special occasion, or when you want to be a little fancy for your night out. A triangular Moldavite necklace by Gem Steady is the showstopper of this look. The neutral tones in this outfit make a great base for such a bold statement piece! Add a few stackable Garnet rings by Gem Steady to add more warmth to this look.
I know we are still in Summer, but I am already excited about Fall colors and thicker fabrics!:) What is your favorite way to jazz up the classic pants and jacket combination? Tell us bellow!

                                                               Shop the look:
                                                               Pants: Etro
                                                               Jewelry: Gem Steady
                                                               Beaded Top: Needle&Thread
                                                               Gray Peplum Jacket: Lanvin
                                                               Velvet Pumps: Burberry Porsum

To contrast the chilled blue hue of this skirt, I added a bright orange alligator clutch by Kathryn Allen. A pair of color blocked pumps by Sophia Webster finishes off our look!
