Lavish Lapis Lazuli


Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope you’ve been having a wonderful winter so far. There are a few gems that you cannot help but feel warmer when you see. This week we’re going to highlight one of these warm gems. The beautiful rich blue of the gem is sure to remind its wearer of a warmer climate. This week we’re discussing the lovely Lapis Lazuli. This ancient gem has quite an amazing history and has remained a prominent gem throughout its long past.

Ancient Egyptians used Lapis Lazuli during their burial practices and would place it with their dead in order to offer protection. They would also use this stone as a symbol of truth. A number of ancient societies valued Lapis Lazuli higher than gold. Some ancient people believed that sleeping with this gem would forecast faithful love.

Like many gems with long history, Lapis Lazuli was often used to honor ancient gods. For example, it was used to honor Athena, Greek goddess of war and wisdom; as well as, Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage and the queen of all gods and goddesses on Mount Olympus. This stone was used to honor the Roman goddess of Love, Venus or Aphrodite.

Interestingly, Lapis Lazuli was used to honor an ancient Sumerian goddess of the underworld, Inanna, who would travel to the underworld carrying her Lapis Lazuli rods. It was also used to honor Nuit, the Egyptian goddess of heaven and sky, the protector and mother of life on Earth. Lapis Lazuli also honors Dana, or Danu, the Celtic river goddess.

This gem is used to help expand awareness, take control of your life and will encourage self-awareness. This gem can also build your courage, confidence and help you to overcome shyness. Lapis Lazuli can also be used to decrease irritability.

Additionally, it can alleviate depression, enhance serenity and even protect the wearer from physical danger. This amazing stone can help to alleviate things such as sinus problems, cancer, headaches, speech problems, pain relief, insomnia and tuberculosis.

It energizes the third eye and throat chakra and can help you to understand your dreams. Meditating with Lapis Lazuli can assist you in understand to understand things more clearly. This gem is used to bring information from dreams into your conscious life to reveal wisdom. It’s known for enhancing love within relationships.

The name for this gem originates from the Latin word “lapis” for stone and “lazuli” comes from a mixture of Persian and Arabic would for blue. The French, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Hungarian word for blue are believed to come from the name and color of Lapis Lazuli. This gem is located around the world in countries such as Chile, Russia, America, and Afghanistan.
